Hi guys! My name is Adrienne Thompson, a good way that many people have been able to remember my name is reminding themselves of the infamous yell Rocky Balboa does when he calls his girlfriend, "Aaadriennnee!!" I've gotten it my whole life so no worries, it won't annoy me if you do it. (:
I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. Yep, right near Disney. My parents have lived in the same house since before I was born and I've moved out twice, for some adventure. Once to Gainesville (Goo Gators!) and down the street in Windermere (Where Tiger Woods lived..)
I am 21, almost 22 years old (my birthday is March 3rd, woot!). I am currently a senior at UCF and I will have my Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in December of this year. Interdisciplinary Studies is combining multiple areas into one.. So, I am studying Behavioral and social sciences, the arts, and education. I want to work in ministry though.
I am currently living at home, but I work three days a week as a nanny from 8-4. I watch a two year old named Ben… He is the cutest thing you'll ever see.
I thoroughly enjoy painting. Painting is my passion. If I knew how to post some of my paintings on here I would. Add me on facebook if you'd like, so we can "officially" become friends! (: I also love spending time and discipling my small group of high school girls ranging from 10th-12th grade. I am a youth leader at my youth ministry called Adrenaline (www.theadrenaline.com –if you wanna check it out). I love star gazing.. going to the beach.. and drinking smoothies. I am currently in love with reading the Old Testament. It's taken me a few years to really get into it. Oh, and I also have a crush on the Apostle Paul. Not being irreverent at all, but He speaks sweet words to my soul.
Hmm.. What makes me unique.. Apparently I can pull off anything I wear. Not that I go around in a tutu (but if you do, that's cool!), I just wear what I wear. I have three tattoos.. I have one on the outside of my right foot that says, "Let me take you down cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields". It's from the song "Strawberry Fields Forever" by the Beatles. Ask me when you see me why I got it.. I can't spoil everything about me on here! (: I have one going about five or so inches from the top of my spine in Hebrew that says, "My hope is in you all day long" which is from Psalm 25:5. I have a story for that one too, as well as the last one that is right below the crease? in the inside of my left arm which says, "Having nothing yet possessing Everything" from 2 Corinthians 6:10. Oh, and speaking of Hebrew, I'm taking my second semester of Hebrew at school. It's pretty sweet.
My first mission trip was to New Orleans (pre-Hurricane) when I was a freshman in High School. I gave my life to Christ when on January 21, 2004 and went on the trip that summer. It was incredible. I took my first overseas trip to Haiti in August of 2007 through an organization called New Missions. I fell inlove with a 9 year old boy at the time named Fanex who I still sponsor today. I went back to Haiti in November of 2009, before the earthquake. God really opened my heart and eyes to living simply and serving Him fully in Haiti. I also took a group of students to Georgia this past summer to help out at an organization called Morning Star that houses children who were physically, mentally, and sexually abused at home.
I am sooo super excited about this trip. I have been feeling God leading me to Africa since 2005 when I was exposed to the living conditions through the organization Compassion. I am truly excited to see how God is going to use each of us for His purpose. We are one body and I am so ready and pumped to see Him be glorified through each of us in unique ways. Nothing is really making me too nervous about going on this trip, I know that His Will will be done and that nothing will touch me if that is not His plan. I just love how many times Jesus was able to escape from those who tried to capture Him (as you can read in the Gospels). God has been confirming me throughout this time that He wants to me to go to Africa. I am not completely sure yet, but He has already done so many things in order to continue the process for this trip.
Adrienne, glad to have you on this team. I like that you are not sharing everything about yourself before you all get on the field. Make them work for the information ad still keep an element of mystery. You will love this trip and the experience that comes along with it. East Africa is amazing, especially Kenya.
Hey Adrienne! I just wanted to say Happy Birthday! We are almost birthday twins! Mine is March 5th! I hope yours was awesome! Can’t wait to meet you!
Hey Adrienne!
I was just in Orlando over spring break! You’re so lucky you live there! I’m excited to meet you!
What the stink? Do you know how many Adrienne Thompson’s there are on facebook? Not okay.
