Hey ya'll! My name is Davis Renee Harley. You're probably wondering why I told you my whole name…I have a double name and I go by Davis Renee. The most frequent question I get is where my name came from so…Davis is my great grandmother on my Dads side maiden name and Renee is my aunt on my Moms side middle name so I guess they just put them together and got my name!
If you didn't notice by the "ya'll" in the title of this blog or my introduction, Im from the South! I was born in raised in Sunny South Carolina. I was born and lived in Greenwood, SC (tiny town) until I was 18 then I came to college in Columbia, SC. Fun fact, the slogan for Columbia is "Famously Hot". In the summers here it really is one of the hottest places I have ever been and its only an hour away from where I grew up but there is a huge temperature difference!
I am 20 right now but I will be 21 tomorrow (March 5th)!! Im currently a junior nursing major at the University of South Carolina, Go Gamecocks!! You'll probably quickly realize that I am a huge sports fanatic and therefore a HUGE Gamecock fan!!
I work at the United Way Association of South Carolina between classes and I love it! I spend most of the times doing secretary stuff. I get to make a lot of phone calls to agencies and coordinate meetings. It's not exactly related to anything I want to do in the future but its fun for now!
Well, I already said I was a huge Gamecock fan so I love to go to footbally and baseball games! I never miss a football game and this past summer I got the opportunity to go to the college baseball nation championship in Omaha, Nebraska! I also love snowskiing, hanging out on the lake with friends and family, and going to the beach. I'm also a huge nerd and I read a lot when I have the extra time 🙂 I am also very involved with the children and youth programs at my church so on Sunday mornings Im with the babies in the nursery or on Wednesdays Im hanging out with middle and high schoolers!
I would say my name makes me pretty unique! Not many people have double names and the ones who do probably don't have one quite like mine! Im the only Davis Renee anyones ever met! I have a tattoo on my foot, I just got it in January and sometimes I look down and still can't believe I did it. I was the girl who was never going to get a tattoo but after a lot of prayer (like 8 months worht) I decided to get one! I wont tell you what it is though! You can see it when I meet you! I love trying new things and traveling! Im a huge spontaneous traveler…my roommate and I drove to NYC (a 12 hour drive) and Washington DC for a weekend last year without any planning before hand. We decided to go on Thursday night and left Friday after she got off work. It was one of the best experiences! I also love trying new food but I hate carrots! So, hopefully we wont be eating any of those, I think they are the only food I hate. 🙂
My first mission trip was when I was 14 to a summer camp through my old church. It was called Salkehatchie and it was a trip where we spent a week in a low income home and did repairs and shared Christ's love. My church did this same mission trip every summer helping different families. For the most part, we did physical labor (roofing, building handicap ramps, painting). I have never been outside of the United States on a mission trip so Im excited!
God has been calling me to go to Africa since I was 13. I was at a camp called Big Stuf in Panama City, Fl the first time I felt Africa on my heart. The interns there had gone and after watching the videos and hearing their stories I knew I would eventually go. I can't wait to see how we advance the Kingdom while we are over there. I went to Passion Conference in Atlanta, Ga right after Christmas this year and I just knew God was telling me it was finally time to go for His name. I can't wait to spend time serving with everyone and carrying the Name of Jesus to the people of Africa. I don't want to waste any of my life living for a name lesser than the name of Jesus and Im pumped to be physically doing something for Him. Im a little nervous about leaving my family for so long and flying so far but Im trusting God. When I was thinking about this trip and considering the reasons not to go, the question of what does it say about my faith if I don't trust God enough to go for him? That's really been my drive to trust God. God has opened this door so wide for me and I just love that He continually confirms that this is how Im supposed to spend a majority of my summer. I know that God is going to use each one of us in such incredible ways, but I can't wait to see how much He teaches us and how much we all grow from this.
Hi Davis Renee!
Sounds like you had such a fun trip! I’d love to go to NYC some day. Looking forward to meeting you!
